Job Summary
|
The objectives of the organization's Education and Early Childhood Development Services are to:
- Provide children with a learning environment and the varied experiences which will help them develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development toward the overall goal of social competence.
- Integrate the educational aspects of the various Head Start departments in the daily program of activities.
Involve parents in educational activities of the program to enhance their role as the principal influence on the child's education and development
Under the direct supervision of the Education Specialist, the Child Development Specialist serves as first-line manager and supervisor of multiple site programs and teaching staff, coordinates curriculum and staff development, and may, on an emergency basis, provide instruction to children. General responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following: Program and curriculum planning and coordination, preparing and updating the annual education area plan; personnel supervision and evaluation, staffing for centers, developing training plans for staff and volunteers, assisting in delivery of in-service training and orientation for staff; facility management which includes inspection of center facilities for health, safety, and licensing compliances, and assessment of equipment and material needs; site monitoring, classroom visits, observations; interpreting Federal and State regulations, and agency policies and procedures to staff; report-writing; and, attending meetings required by management.

Requirements
|
Education:
Bachelor's degree preferably in the field of early childhood education or human development and Child Development Program Director Permit; three years experience in a child development program, one year as a supervisor or in program administration.
Work independently with minimum supervision, speak and write effectively; possession of good interpersonal skills.
Experience:
Two (2) years of actual preschool or kindergarten classroom experience; at least five (5) years of direct experience working with young children; and two (2) years in an administrative or supervisory capacity, preferably in an overall administrative capacity. Additional qualifying experience, in some cases, may be substituted for required education.
